Ken asks…

Engine Smoke/Oil Cavalier?

When I start my car up and after a while smoke will come out of the hood. Not alot of smoke but just a little. I was wondering if was because there is some kind of dirt on the engine which I believe is oil. What do you think is causing it? If it is this oil how can I clean it off? Thanks

Potter answers:

A very common problem is the valvecover seal leaking oil that soon drips onto the exhaust manifolds causing smoke once the manifolds heat. Look for the source of an oil leak and if it leads to the exhaust manifold then that is the cause of the smoke.
